Why are changemakers in food (ingredients) rare and do we seldom see ‘out of the box innovations in food?’ Enabling us to tackle global issues such as climate change, deforestation and biodiversity loss, clean labeling, obesity and other health issues! Whilst future consumer needs justify radical solutions, today’s consumers seem to accept only incremental solutions. Two changemakers, Mosa Meat and the Dutch Weed Burger, are touching different horizons of commercialization. We like to offer you a unique opportunity to share valuable insights on future market trends and consumer platforms, futureproof ingredients and underlying technologies.

|Entrepreneur & former environmentalist Mark Kulsdom started his The Dutch Weed Burger adventure in 2012. While filming in New York for a documentary about meat consumption, he and co-founder Lisette Kreischer got the idea to make a vega burger. “We wanted to make a vegetable product that would appeal to the masses. The burger is the icon of meat eaters. Within a few months we developed the seaweed burger, together with the owner of a burger restaurant.” Six years later, the burger is on the menu of 200 Dutch restaurants, the product range has expanded and their ‘House of Seaweed’ in Amsterdam serves next-level vegan comfort food.
Peter Verstrate is the food technician behind the world’s first slaughter-free hamburger. He has worked in the processed meat industry for over 20 years in various senior positions ranging from R&D to QA to Operations. He brings a deep knowledge of the meat business developed at international food companies including Sara Lee, Ahold, Smithfield, Campofrio Food Group and Jack Links. He also served as Managing Director of Hulshof Protein Technologies, a leading producer of collagen proteins. Peter holds a Master’s in Food Science from Wageningen University. He is passionate about the environment and food security, and highly driven to find a sustainable way to feed the world. Peter co-founded Mosa Meat and as CEO is focused on bringing the first commercial cultured meat products to market.

|The fortifications of the idyllic town of Willemstad, named after William of Orange (1533-1584), bear witness to a rich past. Mauritz Grand Café, Restaurant, Salon & Hotel is located in the middle of the center, in a 19th century building that has been renovated with TLC. The Grand Café has the atmosphere of a Parisian brasserie, the restaurant with veranda serves internationally oriented dishes, prepared with daily fresh products, a.o. from the fishing village of Yerseke. The hotel has 15 luxury double rooms and 2 luxury suites spread over 2 locations (Landpoortstraat 24 and Landpoortstraat 37-41).

|Royal Cosun is an agri-industrial group firmly rooted in the primary sector. The businesses that belong to Cosun are Aviko, Duynie, Sensus, Suiker Unie, SVZ and Cosun Biobased Products. They produce food ingredients and products that make their way to the food industry, foodservice sector and retail channels. In addition, the group is increasingly focusing on components for non-food applications. The Cosun innovation center is a meeting place for everyone who is working on innovation and development within Cosun. About a hundred professionals meet and work with colleagues from the Cosun companies but also external scientists, students, suppliers and customers.

Registration and accommodation
The IFFI dinner meeting programme includes dinner and drinks and excludes eventual accommodation costs. Participation costs for non-members are € 150,– excluding VAT. Participation costs for IFFI colleagues are covered by the membership fee. However, for cancellation of participation after 10 September we will charge you € 150,–. IFFI can arrange a hotel room for you in Hotel Mauritz, single rooms including breakfast, excluding city tax cost € 95,– and have to be paid upon departure. There are only 10 rooms guaranteed in this hotel, which will be booked on a first come, first served base. When fully booked, IFFI will try to find you a room in other hotel accommodations nearby.
